ABOUT SHIFT SALISBURY
Everyone can and is welcome to have two wheel fun at Shift Salisbury, regardless whether your old, young, your gender, ethnic origin, and so on. Anyone can partake in this sport with other like-minded people for the sake of having a good time, while pursing a life enhancing activity.
As with modern days, liability and insurance has led to many bike trails being torn down. Now that there is an official club promoting the sport, it is hoped that we can once more have thriving trails to rip on without fear of them getting knocked down. The club will make this more easily possible.
This club supports a variety of cycling disciplines, which also adds a little more variety to Salisbury’s sports scene. We are very much into putting on leisure rides and sessions on but Shift Salisbury can also help raise any local racing talent, to the best that they can by sharing riding knowledge supporting competitors when it comes to their training and race days. We currently also offer cross country mountain biking and freeride as our disciplines.
As for club talent, we do have members that are racing this year in BMX and downhill mountain biking. Look out on the News page for any race gossip.
What can we offer club members?
* Club structure
* Insurance cover when riding at club sessions and events
* Representation at meetings for cycling and youth services to help get better facilities
* Regular club rides for all abilities
* Family rides
* Newsletter
* Fun, friendly atmosphere with a group that shares the same passion to have fun riding
* An activity to simply chillout, get fit and learn new skills
We have future plans
Firstly, at present we are working hard to help try and bring you all a local bike track where anyone in the community can ride their bikes, whether BMX or mountain bikes. The track will offer other future uses, such as a place to coach four-cross mountain bike and BMX racing and as a place to hold competition style races whether for just fun local stuff or bigger racing events for the more serious style competitors. Keep an eye on the news page to see the results
of the track project.
One of the big items on the club committee agenda for 2008 is training up to four members of the Shift Salisbury club committee to become qualified British Cycling coaches, who can teach specialist bike disciplines as well as basic bike riding skills. The specialist bike
disciplines that we first aspire to teach will be cross-country and if the track is built, four-cross mountain biking and BMX. We are also interested in getting local schools involved in cycling.
Club locations
As just mentioned, one of the purpose of the club is to bring more specialist cycling facilities to Salisbury, for where club sessions and events can be held. If the bike track is successfully in Salisbury, the club will then have the main hub of the club where four-cross mountain bike and BMX track sessions can take place.
For now, Salisbury and the surrounding areas have a great variety of simple and more challenging routes for the club to offer cross-country style and casually fun bike rides for anyone to enjoy. There are also spots, where we can do some evening and weekend freeride bike sessions.
Like what we’re about?
If you like what we have to offer and would like to partake, download a form or contact one of the club committee for more information or you can visit us at the next session or event. The fees are kept as cheap as possible to ensure that no one gets left out due to money difficulties. We at Shift Salisbury hope that everyone has fun and always look forward to seeing new people
Happy Trails!
